January 2017 Calendar Image

The 2017 calendar showcases twelve of our team’s favorite Pictometry images out of the millions captured throughout the 2015-2016 image season. The January 2017 image brings us to Maryland.

Mallows Bay, located in the Potomac River, is the watery grave of hundreds of historic ships, most of which are wooden steamships commissioned in the midst of World War I and later scuttled when they proved to be obsolete by the end of the conflict.

Today it is both a wildlife sanctuary and historical monument – home to hundreds of vessels dating as far back as the Civil War and as recent as the 1980s. (Image coordinates: 38.472587, -77.268292)
