Designed by German Architect Bruno Schmitz, the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument in Indianapolis is the largest outdoor memorial of its kind in Indiana. Serving as a tribute to veterans of the American Civil War, the American Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, and the Spanish-American War, it was the first monument in the U.S. to be dedicated to the common soldier.
