July 2015 Calendar Image

The 2015 calendar showcases twelve of our team’s favorite Pictometry images out of more than 28 million captured in the 2013-2014 image season. The July image takes us to California.

For nearly 100 years the Santa Monica Pier has entertained beachgoers. The current version actually began as two separate structures. The longer section started life as the Santa Monica Municipal Pier in 1909. It had no amenities, but in 1916 the shorter Newcomb Pier was built alongside it. The Newcomb Pier was eventually acquired by the City of Santa Monica in 1974. The pier’s status as an icon of Los Angeles has resulted in it being featured in a host of movies, television shows, music videos and video games. (Image capture date 03/03/14.)
