When Jen Silver started out in the industry as a sales manager, she struggled to find an accurate roof measurement tool. She struggled with insurance companies having different numbers and rejecting her estimates. She also found that it was common for her material order to be short or in surplus.
When Jen founded Roofing Utah, she knew that the EagleView was more expensive and wondered if the cheap alternative would deliver a good enough data set for estimates. She had her team try an alternative report combined with hand measuring. “All of a sudden, I had all this inventory in my warehouse. It’s a lot of work to manage inventory and costs a lot. I probably have $10K sitting in there right now and it’s probably money I’ll never see,” said Jen. She had to do something to improve her bottom line so she decided to run an experiment comparing EagleView to the alternative.
For the next 8 projects, she ordered roof data sets from both the alternative report provider and EagleView. The result? She found the alternative's roof sq count was 10-15% larger, and consequentially, she was ordering an additional 30% material. She’d end up using 10% of that leaving her with a surplus of 20% in the warehouse. With these results, it was clear what her next steps would be. She went back to EagleView.
