Pre- and post-wildfire imagery allows insurance companies to respond more quickly to areas of severe damage

Bothell, Wash. (December 19, 2017) – Eagle View Technologies (“EagleView®”), the leading provider of aerial imagery and property data analytics for government and private-sector organizations, is capturing high-resolution aerial imagery of the destruction from the California wildfires. EagleView is providing its insurance customers with all of the images at no additional cost in an effort to help with the recovery process.

EagleView is currently flying over the Lilac wildfire in California and will continue to do so bi-weekly, as conditions allow, until the fire is resolved. Insurance carriers can compare this current imagery with existing historical imagery that EagleView has captured in San Diego county over the last 12 months.

The images will be available for free to EagleView’s insurance customers on its web-based CONNECTExplorer™ platform. This access will enable insurance carriers to view the latest imagery and better identify and respond to areas of severe need.

“These catastrophic events are absolutely devastating to families and entire communities,” said EagleView CEO Rishi Daga. “EagleView’s ability to get the full picture very quickly allows insurance companies to respond to claims more safely and swiftly, ultimately helping families get back in their homes faster and contributing to the broader recovery of the community.”

EagleView’s rapid-response approach to catastrophic events leverages the fleet of more than 120 fixed-wing aircraft at the business’s disposal. Using patented camera systems, EagleView captures its Pictometry® aerial imagery from a top-down (orthogonal) perspective as well as from an oblique angle, also known as a bird’s-eye view.

In 2017, EagleView began implementing advanced machine learning technology to gather and analyze important data quickly. This technology helps EagleView identify areas with severe property damage to enable triage of insurance claims.

This year, EagleView also introduced FireAI™, a new technology providing rapid and accurate property data to insurance claims adjusters during and after the California wildfires. FireAI combines pre-event aerial imagery in conjunction with post-event satellite imagery and artificial intelligence to deliver updated damage score files to adjusters within days of the fires starting. Insurance carriers then receive timely insight into the extent of the damage each structure has undergone, making remote assessment a possibility while evacuation orders are still in place and physical access is unfeasible.

“Great partners are there for you in times of great need, and it is important to EagleView to support our partners and community when disaster strikes,” said EagleView Chief Revenue Officer Rich Spring. “We take on flying, capturing and sharing these images at no additional cost to our insurance carriers because we know that it will help the families and communities who are suffering from these devastating fires.”
