June 2015 Calendar Image

The 2015 calendar showcases twelve of our team’s favorite Pictometry images out of the more than 28 million captured in the 2013-2014 image season. The June image takes us to California.

The skyline of downtown Los Angeles has been depicted as a towering inferno and has been destroyed by extraterrestrials, earthquakes and volcanoes — at least in the movies. In real life, downtown L.A. is home to over 50,000 people representing all races and walks of life. Prior to 1957, no building in Los Angeles could be taller than city hall so that the California sunshine could reach street level. Since the restriction was lifted, L.A. has built up, but the skyline is still more spread out than those of other large American cities. (Image capture date 03/05/14.)
