Los Angeles Consortium Selects Pictometry® to Provide Critical Data in Phase 4 of Digital Mapping Project

(Bothell, Wash., January 16, 2014) –EagleView Technologies, Inc., a leading technology provider of aerial imagery, data analytics and GIS solutions, announced that the Los Angeles Region – Imagery Acquisition Consortium (LAR-IAC), after a competitive request for proposal process, has selected Pictometry to provide both orthogonal and oblique images, building outlines and digital terrain data for phase 4 of the consortium’s mapping initiatives.

Phase 4 of the mapping and image acquisition project begins this year with eleven of EagleView’s 73 planes capturing Pictometry images of the county’s 4,000-plus square miles.   “This fourth phase will deliver even more products in a faster time frame than ever before,” stated Mark Greninger, Geographic Information Officer, County of Los Angeles.  The project has an aggressive schedule in terms of collection and delivery of images and data with final delivery of Pictometry products slated for summer 2014.  “We are very excited about the new Early Access option that allows our members to see raw images within 10-14 days of capture – something that we couldn’t do in previous phases,” said Greninger.

Beyond the initial data capture of Los Angeles County the contract offers additional benefits to government entities throughout the state of California.  “Because LAR-IAC did its due diligence with this comprehensive RFP process, any government entity in the state will be able to piggyback off the contract for their own image and data needs,” explained Greninger.

EagleView Technologies President of Government Solutions Robert Locke said that the awarded contract represents a continuance of the long-term business relationship the company has with the consortium.  “We are proud that we are able to continue to provide services to LAR-IAC and support them in this epic project,” stated Locke.

Locke noted that it is becoming more common for counties and cities throughout the United States to pool dollars and resources to acquire aerial images and data. “Counties recognized quickly that we offer a true enterprise-wide solution for multiple agencies,” explained Locke.  “The high-resolution images and analytical tools bring value to assessment, planning, public safety and more.  Cost sharing allows counties and cities to maximize their ROI and spread the financial investment across the many different agencies that benefit from the use of the images and tools.  It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved.”

Greninger estimates that pooling resources and forming LAR-IAC has resulted in an estimated savings of $14 million throughout the first three phases of the project.  Greninger will detail the consortium’s success and share tips for replication of the LAR-IAC model as a featured speaker at the FutureView conference for Pictometry users, Feb. 9-12, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas.
