Celebrating GIS Day 2021

November 17, 2021 is GIS Day, and we’re excited to share how GIS is making a difference in our society.

Each year, EagleView celebrates GIS Day to recognize the importance of geographic information systems. Esri established GIS Day in 1999 as “an international forum for users of geographic information systems (GIS) technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference in our society.”

This year, we spoke to one of our GIS experts, certified GIS Professional (GISP®) Razy Kased, about the importance of geospatial education and the field of geography.

Here’s what Razy had to say:

Why do you think geospatial education is important?

I believe that the root of many problems faced by organizations today can be traced back to issues that, at their core, have spatial components. As someone who strives to have a continuous learning mindset, any opportunity that I have to advance my spatial and problem-solving skills is a chance to think spatially, and leverage the insight that geospatial education attempts to unlock. I would encourage anyone to find a path that helps them further their geospatial education.

What’s unique about EagleView’s GIS expertise?

I would have to say it’s people. You will quickly learn how knowledgeable and passionate people are around here about GIS. This characteristic, coupled with our unique product solutions in today’s market, creates a powerful combination that allows us to not only leverage GIS in-house to help solve some of the most complex spatial challenges, but also to help our customers get the most out of our GIS expertise through our product offerings.

What are some of EagleView’s most innovative GIS use cases/applications?

There are numerous innovative ways we use GIS at EagleView to capture and analyze spatial data. The one use case I would highlight is our ability to continue to push the boundaries to support the planning, capturing, processing, and visualization of imagery. We have some of the most dedicated individuals and brilliant minds tackling some of the most complex problems. And GIS is part of their toolbox when delivering solutions and value.

What impact does GIS have on our everyday lives?

I would say GIS has become ubiquitous in its use in technology today. Its importance continues to grow exponentially as we try to keep pace with the growing demand of capturing and analyzing geospatial data—to help us make better-informed decisions quicker, and solve our everyday problems.
